Smith & Wesson M&P9 Co2 GBB
The Smith & Wesson M&P9 is a mainstay in the real steel world with Police Forces (as the name “Military & Police”) suggests due to its rugged design, safety and comfort. In airsoft, it’s a cool looking pistol that functions beautifully and is something different than the hundreds of 1911 variants out there!
There are only a handful of options out there for people looking for an airsoft version of the M&P; you have Co2 Non-Blowback (half the fun), Gas Blowback (green gas; only for use in hotter months), and then this beauty hit the shelves! Manufactured under official license from Cybergun, this pistol is quite impressive! First of all it’s relatively plain – no shiney ostentatious parts to give your position away, and yet it is extraordinarily attractive in its simplicity. The finish is matte black, and the trademarks are subtle – they don’t scream out at you like a cheap toy-store model, and instead punctuate the overall look & shape of the piece.
When you hold the gun it feels weighty, with a solid heft, and solid. Unlike many other guns, the weight doesn’t feel artificially added. Holding it in your hand it feels exactly like you’d expect! Even with the magazine out the weight stays on point, and with it in the distribution is perfect.
As you’d expect it has white-dot pistol sights making it extremely easy to sight your target, and the rear slide serrations make cocking that first round (or power stroking) a dream – even in gloves! What you might not expect is that it is ambidextrous for slide release & safety, and the mag release can be swapped over to the other side (in case you’re left handed). On top of that you have 3x backstraps for the gun to ensure the best fit in your hand; small, medium and large. So regardless of whether you have shovels or doll-hands, it’ll be more comfortable than most.
Disassembly of the pistol is quick & easy, and for a change rather positive. Drop the magazine out, retract the slide (activate slide lock for the easiest route), push the disassembly lever down & release the slide. Your pistol is now in two parts, so you can clean & maintain it, or just adjust the hop! You can easily dial up/down the hop via the adjustment screw on the bottom of the barrel (flat head screw) so whether you’re slinging 0.20g or 0.30g, you can tweak it to your liking. Putting it back together is a case of sliding the upper back on, pulling it all the way to the rear and pushing the lever backward to a positive *click* allowing you to enjoy your pistol once again!
To adjust the grip backstraps, remove the magazine and on the bottom of the pistol you twist the D-shape piece 45 degrees & pull out completely – you can now swap the panels by hinging one out & replacing it with a suitably sized alterantive!
